Claiborne, an All-American at LSU, led the Tigers with six interceptions last season and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.
He was also LSU's top kickoff returner, averaging 25 yards per return with a 99-yard touchdown at West Virginia.
"I couldn't be happier for Mo," head coach Les Miles said. "He's very deserving of this. He's a guy that will work long and hard to be the best professional football player that he can be. It also makes me very happy that he went to the Dallas Cowboys. He's going to look great wearing the star."
LSU sophomore defensive tackle Michael Brockers was picked up by the St. Louis Rams with the No. 14 overall pick.
Brockers had two sacks in his lone year as a starter.
