No. 1 LSU beats No. 2 Kentucky 5-4 Friday night behind a 3 RBI performance from Senior shortstop Austin Nola. The Tigers improve to 32-7, 12-4 SEC record.
The Tigers came out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. First with Raph Rhymes hitting an infield single which scored Arby Fields on a throwing error making 1-0. Austin Nola then added an RBI single to make it 2-0.
In the top of the fourth with the score now 2-1, Freshman Tyler Moore blasted a solo home run over the right field wall raising the score to 3-1. Kentucky would tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth. However, Austin Nola would give the Tigers a 5-3 lead with a 2 RBI double.
Kentucky would get as close as 5-4, but Kevin Gausman held them at bay throwing seven innings allowing 10 hits, 4 runs and striking out 11 batters. Nick Goody came in the ninth inning to slam the door shut on the Wildcats striking out the side.
Game Two is Saturday with a 1 p.m. Central start time on Cox Cable ch. 255.
