Truancy center set to open in August

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - City and law enforcement leaders announced the opening of the new East Baton Rouge Truancy Center Tuesday.

The center is expected to open in August, just in time for the new school year.

"How would you like to be a child of a family that lives in the area and you want that child to go to school, you want that child to learn, however at night time, that child hears gunshots," said District Attorney Hillar Moore

Gov. Jindal signed off on a three-year, no-cost lease, so the former site of the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired on Government St. will house the new truancy center.
