BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - According to the Louisiana High School Athletics Association, a man, identified as a sexual predator, has been calling member schools trying to get names of football players to lure them to his house.
The man sometimes dresses and speaks like a female. He offers the players a job opportunity at places such as the YMCA, which may include a $100 voucher for gift items.
Police believe the man got the athletes' phone numbers by calling area coaches to offer jobs to their players.
Police say they have identified the man, who is a registered sex offender, and spoken to him. So far, no known crime has happened, and at the moment, he has not been charged.
According to a Baton Rouge police officer, one student-athlete was contacted and ended up going to the man's house regarding the situation. The LHSAA says "luckily nothing happened to the young man."
The Baton Rouge Police Department visited the LHSAA Monday about the situation.
Baton Rouge City Police want to make the schools aware of this man so that "coaches, parents and students can be informed immediately of this very dangerous situation." At present, only football players have been targeted.
The investigation is ongoing.
If you have any information about this situation, you are urged to call the Baton Rouge Police Department at (225) 389-3853.
