The Southern Jaguars (15-14, 6-7) played catch up the entire night against the Texas Southern Tigers before falling 5-3 in the series opener.
The Jaguars certainly had their chances to put up some runs, stranding 12 runners on the bases. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after the 2nd inning. The Jags would make it 3-2 after the 6th inning, and then 4-3 after the 7th inning.
However, that's as close as Roger Cador's team would get Friday night. This is the same team that the Jaguars swept last month to open SWAC play.
Southern will have a chance to win the series when the two teams play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
