Tigers Upset #1 Florida to open SEC series, 7-6

GAINESVILLE, FL (WAFB) - LSU broke a seven-game regular season losing streak to Florida Thursday night, beating the No.1 Gators 7-6 in Gainesville for the Tigers' seventh straight victory.

Kurt McCune pitched five solid innings to earn the victory, and the Tigers backed him with a 3-run first inning and another 3-run rally in the fourth. Alex Edward's 2-run single capped the first inning uprising for LSU (24-6, 7-3) and Jacoby Jones sparked the fourth inning rally with a 2-run double.

Florida (24-7, 6-4)entered the game nationally-televised on ESPNU with a 17-1 home record and projected first round draft pick Brian Johnson on the mound. But even with starting catcher Ty Ross suspended for breaking team rules and the SEC's leading hitter Raph Rymes going 0-for-4, LSU still snapped the seven game skid against the Gators dating back to the last game of the May 2009 series at Alex Box Stadium.

LSU did defeat the Gators in an SEC Tournament game in 2010.
