HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - The man police say committed a double murder in Hammond, La. is now behind bars and charged with first degree murder.
The Hammond Police Department said Giles McGhee, 51, is accused of shooting and killing Temeka Muse, 27, and her boyfriend Karum smith, 39, while they were sleeping.
They were found dead inside a home on Mallard Drive Thursday morning by Muse's 14-year-old daughter. The shootings happened overnight during the storm.
"When we arrived at the scene, she was very hysterical. That's understandable, especially when her mother's been shot. It's a tragic situation," said Lt. Vincent Giannobile with the Hammond Police Department.
Neighbors said McGhee is the woman's ex-boyfriend and possibly gained entry into the house with a key.
They said they did not hear any gunshots and believe it may have happened during the storms that passed through the area overnight.
