BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Mardi Gras may be over, but the party in the Bayou state is just getting started. The State's leaders kicked off Louisiana's Bicentennial Celebrations Monday.
Louisiana officially became the 18th state in the Union on April 30, 1812, Monday; everything that has made Louisiana unique for the past 200 years went on display at the Capitol Park Museum downtown.
"The best way to prepare for the future is to learn from the past and that's what this celebration is all about," said Jay Dardenne, Louisiana Lt. Governor. "The recognition of what makes Louisiana special, what makes Louisiana unique and captures the times and the moments in our history that led to where we are today in 2012."
The display will stay open until the end of the year. Click Here to find out about the events scheduled for the celebration.
