BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The House Appropriations Committee continues to hear from various state departments to pound out a budget for fiscal year 2012-2013.
For legislators, it's all about cutting the budget.
Ruth Johnson is the secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services.
She told the committee the department has gone from 5,200 employees to just over 3,900 in the past five years.
The reduction has not affected services, according to Johnson.
She told the committee her department's top priorities are child development and early learning services.
She also said the Child Support Enforcement Division continues to grow.
DCFS is doing well overall.
