AMELIA, LA (WAFB) - Two men were arrested on drug charges after a search of a truck stop turned up thousands of dollars worth of "banned fake marijuana" Thursday afternoon.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said Mamoon Khalil, 41, and Nasir Tamini, 45, both of Houma, were arrested after narcotics agents with a search warrant found synthetic drugs, paraphernalia and lots of cash at the Amelia Truck Stop in Amelia.

Agents with the St. Mary Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force reported finding about $20,000 worth of the banned synthetics.

They said they also located several drug paraphernalia items inside the store.

According to authorities, nearly $17,000 in cash was seized.

It is believed the money was from drug sales.

  • Both men were booked into the parish jail on the following charges:
  • Possession of synthetic cannabinoids with intent to distribute
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Transactions involving drug proceeds

Khalil's bond was set at $15,000.

Tamini was held on $7,500 bond.

Deputies said both men were released after posting bond.
