Baton Rouge ranks first in the country in AIDS cases per 100,000 people

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Centers For Disease Control & Prevention released their HIV Surveillance Report for 2010.  It's a milestone for Baton Rouge.

It shows Louisiana's capital city had the highest AIDS case rates in the country with 33.7 per 100,000.  That surpasses Miami, FL which had ranked first for over a decade.

Baton Rouge was previously ranked second in the nation.

New Orleans jumped from 9th to 5th in the rankings.

In 2010, Louisiana ranked 4th highest in estimated state AIDS case rates (20.0 per 100,000).
