Lottery winner plans to send 5 grandkids to college

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 71-year-old woman who recently won the Louisiana Lottery jackpot said she plans to use some of the money on college tuition for her five grandchildren.

Anne Arikol of Baton Rouge expects to be a popular grandmother after claiming the $1,005,040 Lotto jackpot from the March 7 drawing.

After federal and state taxes, she pocketed $703,528.

She told lottery officials her husband usually buys their tickets, but she purchased them this time.

Her husband jokingly assured workers there's no spousal rivalry.

He added he had his own winning ticket recently which netted him $3.

The Lotto jackpot winning ticket was purchased at the Winn Dixie on Old Hammond Highway in Baton Rouge.

The store gets $10,050 for selling the winning ticket.

The winning numbers for the March 7 Lotto drawing were 05-19-27-28-32-35.
