Firefighters were called out to a house fire as heavy rains and lightning moved through the area early Monday morning.

The fire sparked on Monarch Avenue near Silverleaf Avenue in Baton Rouge around 1:45 a.m.

The blaze caused extensive damage to one home and spread to a second.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but the Red Cross called it "weather-related."

No injuries were reported.

Red Cross volunteers said 15 people (7 adults & 8 children) lived in the two homes.

They were able to provide the families with shelter, food, clothing, storage containers, blankets, comfort kits and cleanup kits.

They are asking for donations to help them to continue to provide support whenever a disaster like this strikes.
