BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The State Fire Marshal's Office hosted a memorial service on Saturday to honor seven firefighters who have given their lives in the past year.
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning and a number of dignitaries from all over the state were in Baton Rouge on Saturday morning to participate in the service.
"Most important day in fire service. Most important day at the Fire Marshal's Office. We are honoring seven firefighters who gave their lives over the last 12 months. Defending our state, defending people in times of trouble, defending people in times of danger. There is no better contribution that you can give then to lay your life down," State Fire Marshal Browning said.
Trucks from around the state also participated in a short parade for spectators to see. The guest speaker was Chief Thom Stone from the St.Bernard Fire Department.
The family members of those who have passed were also honored at the service.
