BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The top item on Monday's legislative agenda is Governor Bobby Jindal's Education Reform plan. He is proposing to revamp teacher pay and job protection programs. This is to help create a statewide voucher program which uses state dollars to send children to private schools and expand charter schools in the state.
"Everybody says they believe in a great teacher in every classroom," said Jindal. "Everybody says they believe in equal opportunity; if they really mean it, now is the time to make those things true in the state of Louisiana."
The measures face opposition from some public school leaders and teacher unions. They say Jindal is trying to dismantle the public education system.
