Some truck owners see change in registration renewal

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles has announced a registration renewal change for people who own pickups.

"Starting this year, the renewal notices for all regular truck plates up to 10,000 pounds will be good for four years, not just for one year," Commissioner Nick Gautreaux said.

Before the change, only pickups weighing 6,000 pounds or less could get a renewal sticker valid for four years.

Officials said the base rate will be $28 per year.

Truck owners will be required to make a single payment of $112 once every four years, instead of $36 every year, depending on the weight of their truck.

"Our legislators helped us out last year by simplifying the truck plate law to let us do this. It will make it much easier on truck owners who had to mail in their renewal - or come in to OMV every single year - to renew their truck plate."

Anyone with questions can call their local OMV or the headquarters in Baton Rouge at 225-925-6146.

Officials also wanted to remind people they can renew their registration online.
