Trio faces drug charges after convenience store shoplifting

INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) -

Three people were arrested on drug charges after authorities said one of them stole from a convenience store Sunday evening.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said Brandon Burrescia, Douglas Scardino and Robert Phillips, all 29 years old, were found sitting in a car in the front yard of a home in Independence around 8:30 p.m.

Burrescia and Scardino are from Hammond. Phillips is from Independence.

Deputies said a shoplifting took place at a store on LA 1054 in Independence.

They later responded to a home they believed the suspects had fled to and found the trio in a car there.

Detectives said when the three men got out of the car there were drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain sight.

Investigators said Burrescia was identified as the shoplifter.

They did not release any information about what was taken from the store.

Burrescia is charged with:

Felony theft

Possession of marijuana

Possession of CDS II

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Scardino is charged with:

Felony theft

Possession of marijuana

Possession of CDS II

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Driving under a suspended license

No seatbelt

Phillips is charged with:

Possession of marijuana

Possession of CDS II

Possession of drug paraphernalia

They were all booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Prison.

Bond information was not provided.

The Independence Police Department assisted the sheriff's office with finding the suspects.
