Jordan Jefferson and Les Miles talk during the BCS Championship.Former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson used an interview with an Atlanta radio station Thursday to second-guess his coaches and their role in last month's BCS shutout loss to Alabama.
When asked about the title game that saw Jefferson take every snap for an offense that only produced five first downs and 92 total yards, the senior from Destrehan said it was up to the coaches to make changes and make better use of their talent at receiver and tight end.
"We have great guys in those areas and sometimes we just wonder why we don't use those guys, but we're not the ones calling the plays," Jefferson said. "We just have to go out and execute what the coaches and coordinator are calling. We can't complain as players, but sometimes we do question that. Not all the time I have full access of changing the plays, but if it was in a way where I can change it, I probably would have changed some of them."
He was questioned about whether it was true that a lot of the stuff practiced leading up to the game wasn't used in the contest.
"That's definitely true. We had a lot of different formations, different passing plays, as far as spreading them out as a defense, and we were going to spread out our guys to make sure we got our playmakers involved. But, once we got in the game, it really wasn't the way we practiced," Jefferson answered.
He said he's now preparing for the NFL combine in Florida by training with Patrick Peterson's father.
He added he's looking forward to pro football and playing in a pro-style offense.
