BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges related to a brawl outside a bar.

Jefferson did not appear in a Baton Rouge courtroom for the hearing.

Instead, attorney Lance Unglesby entered the plea on Jefferson's behalf in the simple battery case.

The charge stems from a fight outside Shady's Bar on Aug. 19.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 10.

If convicted, Jefferson could face up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Four people claimed to be injured in the fight.

A decision from the grand jury in September cleared Jefferson of a felony charge.

"They heard from eye witnesses on both sides and returned what they felt were charges that were consistent with the facts of the case," said prosecutor Prem Burns.
