BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The search for a new superintendent for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools is back to square one.
The only finalist for the job, Dr. Samuel King, withdrew his name Wednesday afternoon.
WAFB's Kiran Chawla broke the story just before 6pm.
At a regularly scheduled East Baton Rouge Parish school board meeting that began at 6pm, board president Barbara Freiberg announced King sent her an email Wednesday saying he is withdrawing his name from consideration. Chawla reports many in the crowd at the meeting cheered when Freiberg made the announcement.
The announcement last month that King was the only remaining finalist for the job was met with heavy opposition.
Dr. Samuel King is currently a superintendent in Georgia.
