BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Police have arrested a teen in connection with the shooting that wounded the son of a member of the Baton Rouge Metro Council.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody Monday night and then put into the Juvenile Detention Center.
His name was not released.
He is charged with three counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Mary Lou Drive on Friday around 5:45 p.m.
Thomas Loupe, son of Councilman Chandler Loupe, was shot in the chest while sitting in a car.
He celebrated his 16th birthday in the hospital.
Authorities said three teens were "participating in an illegal activity," possibly a drug deal.
A 15-year-old boy was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of attempted possession of marijuana.
Police said there was also a 17-year-old with the two 15-year-old boys. The 17-year-old was not charged.
