BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Homicide detectives were called out Saturday afternoon to investigate the first murder of the year for a Louisiana small town.
The Addis Police Department said Cruz Ramirez shot Clarence Jones near the intersection of Main and 4th Streets in Addis around 3 p.m.
The intersection is only about a block-and-a-half from the police station.
Officials said Jones is the son of Ramirez's girlfriend.
They added the victim was shot twice as he was trying to leave the home.
Investigators said the two had some sort of ongoing dispute.
Chief Ricky Anderson said Ramirez initially refused to leave the house after the shooting, but eventually surrendered without incident.
Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, Brusly Police Department and Port Allen Police Department responded to the scene to assist.
Emergency officials responded to a home to investigate the first murder of the year in the town of Addis.
