BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Citing health concerns, current Superintendent John Dilworth revealed Friday to members of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and his Executive Leadership Team that his last day in the district is February 24.
The School System currently is in the process of selecting a new superintendent after Dilworth announced on May 20, 2011, he did not plan to renew his current contract, which expires June 30. Dilworth began employment as superintendent on July 1, 2009, when he replaced then Superintendent Charlotte Placide.
East Baton Rouge Parish School Board President Barbara Freiberg thanked Dilworth for his time as superintendent. "I appreciate the work John has done for the district. He has always had the concerns of our students front and center in all the decisions he has made," Freiberg said. "This announcement does not change, in any way, the day-to-day operations of the School System."
The School Board has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday, February 8, to discuss the announcement and the naming of an interim superintendent.
