Deputies investigate another murder in Glen Oaks

Homicide detectives were out combing the streets of the Glen Oaks area for evidence Wednesday night after another deadly shooting in the neighborhood. More

Prosecutors called their final witness to the stand Wednesday in the Trucko Stampley murder trial. The defense plans to call five witnesses, including two medical experts. More

A new audit showed Louisiana's biggest department is missing about $1 million in equipment. It's equipment paid for by the taxpayer. More

The LSU Tigers received letters of intent from 22 high schoolers on Wednesday for National Signing Day. Only one of the signees is a quarterback. More


NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal magistrate has ruled Transocean Ltd. doesn't have to make its CEO, Steve Newman, available to testify at a trial for tens of thousands of court claims spawned by the Gulf oil spill in 2010. Newman already has been questioned under oath by attorneys for the companies that have been sued over the Deepwater Horizon disaster. More

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says a decision won't be made until next week on whether the state's property insurer of last resort will pursue a U.S. Supreme Court appeal of a $93 million judgment against the company. Citizens was found to have moved too slowly in dealing with claims after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. More

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - LSU coach Les Miles says his recruiting class met a lot of needs, even if he wasn't able to keep some coveted 2012 recruits from going elsewhere. LSU wound up signing 22 players in all, three fewer than it could have. Some of the highest-rated recruits included cornerback Dwayne Thomas and linebacker Lorenzo Phillips. More

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Tulane coach Curtis Johnson has his first recruiting class in place and it includes coveted defensive back Darion Monroe. He picked Tulane over Texas A&M Wednesday at East St. John High School near New Orleans. Monroe says a recent visit with Johnson convinced him that Tulane is where he needed to be. More

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Hornets are still looking for any kind of positive momentum. The Hornets lost 120-103 on Wednesday night to the Phoenix Suns, falling for the 18th time in 20 games. Greivis Vasquez had career-highs of 20 points and 12 assists for the Hornets. More

DALLAS (AP) - Some 4,600 maintenance workers, 4,200 baggage handlers and 2,300 flight attendants are among the 13,000 jobs American Airlines wants to cut. The third-biggest airline is trying to remake itself under bankruptcy protection. The parent company lost $884 million in the first nine months of 2011, and $904 million for December alone. More

OLYMPIA, WA (AP) - Washington is likely to become the seventh state to legalize gay marriage. The state Senate has passed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage. The state House is expected to follow suit as early as next week and the governor supports the measure. More

EAGAN, MN (AP) - Mitt Romney's rivals are jumping on a comment he made Wednesday on CNN that he's "not concerned about the very poor" because they have an "ample safety net." Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich raised Romney's remark in Reno, NV, saying, "I am fed up with politicians in either party dividing Americans against each other." Romney says his message has been consistent through his campaign, that he's "devoted to helping middle-income people." More

WAYNESBURG, PA (AP) - A woman, who on surveillance photos appears to not have any teeth, has admitted robbing a western Pennsylvania bank. Evelyn Marie Fuller has apologized for robbing First National Bank in Waynesburg on Jan. 20. She says she needed the money to pay for dentures. More

BRUSSELS (AP) - The U.S. and France will ask for a speeded up end to NATO's combat role in Afghanistan. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who's attending the coalition meeting in Brussels, says the U.S. wants to end its combat role in 2013, and continue a training and advisory role to Afghan forces through 2014. More
