ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WAFB) -
A 17-year-old died and two other teens were injured in a single-car wreck Monday evening.
The Louisiana State Police said Kristina Barnard of Ponchatoula crashed on I-12 West about one mile from the St. Tammany/Tangipahoa parish line around 8 p.m.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sasha Stell, 18, and an unidentified 16-year-old girl, both from the Ponchatoula area, were taken to different hospitals with moderate injuries.
Troopers said their investigation showed when the 2003 Ford Focus Barnard was driving drifted off the interstate she overcorrected.
They explained the move caused the small car to spin and cross both westbound lanes of traffic.
It then slammed into a tree on the driver's side door.
Investigators said all three teens were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
They added they don't suspect any type of impairment factored into the crash.
The cause of the wreck is still being investigated.
