State Police: Man put in 2 claims for same damage to car

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

A Hammond man turned himself in Thursday on insurance fraud charges.

State Police say William White Jr., 27, filed a claim with Progressive in June 2010 after an alleged hit-and-run crash in a store parking lot.  An adjuster investigated the claim and took pictures of the damage, but the claim was denied due to a lapse in coverage.

Six months later, White started a new policy with Progressive and filed a claim for a second alleged hit-and-run crash.  State Police say the alleged damage from the second claim was identical to the damage reported for the first.

White has been charged with one count of insurance fraud.
