An arrest warrant has been signed for Brian Downing, the person of interest in the sexual assault of an LSU fan, according to NBC affiliate WDSU in New Orleans.
WDSU quotes multiple sources as saying an arrest warrant for Downing was signed Thursday night, and the warrant calls for Downing to be arrested on two charges: sexual battery and obscenity. NOPD still refuses to comment.
Authorities in Russell County, Alabama say Brian Downing and his attorney left Alabama early Thursday afternoon and headed to New Orleans to meet with an NOPD Sex Crimes Detective.
Downing is wanted for questioning in what the NOPD is calling a sexual battery that happened after the BCS championship game.
Police say Downing is cooperating with their investigation.
The assault happened at the Krystal Burger on Bourbon Street on January 9, 2012 around 11:45 p.m.
The NOPD Sex Crimes Unit found out Tuesday about the video showing people dressed in Alabama attire messing around with the apparently passed out LSU fan.
The Alabama fans put food containers on him and poured water on his back. One of the fans removed his own genitals from his shorts, climbed on the counter and committed the sexual battery.
Downing worked at Hibbett Sports in Phenix City, Alabama, and has been terminated. Hibbett Sports released the following statement:
"After we looked into it and investigated the matter, we made the decision to terminate this person's employment with the company."
Scott Myers with Hibbett Sports
When Myers was asked about what led to his firing, he said: "It doesn't represent anything about our company."
Myers would not say what Downing's position was with the company or how long he'd been employed. He says they were first made aware of the video Wednesday and fired him later in the day.
