Jury finds former SU AD not guilty of prostitution

A Houston jury found former Southern University athletic director Greg LaFleur not guilty on a charge of prostitution. LaFleur said the arrest should have never happened. More

Police: Man wanted for sexual battery against LSU fan

The New Orleans Police Department is now searching for the suspect in what they are calling a  sexual battery that occurred against an LSU fan after the BCS Championship game. More

Mom faces charges after newborn found in yard

Authorities said a mother will face cruelty and desertion charges after her newborn was found in the family's backyard Tuesday morning. More

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The first black woman to serve on the federal bench in Louisiana will be honored at a formal investiture ceremony. Nannette Jolivette Brown was nominated by President Barack Obama in March and confirmed by the U.S. Senate last October. She will fill the seat of Judge Stanwood Duval, who has taken senior status. More

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - The Justice Department is asking a federal judge to bar a Baton Rouge tax preparer from preparing customers' tax returns. The Internal Revenue Service found that 194 of the 198 income tax returns prepared by Dixon's Tax Service resulted in tax "deficiencies," amounting to $39 million. More

METAIRIE, LA (AP) - A Metairie doctor has pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud and receiving materials involving sexual exploitation of minors. Dan Joachim faces up to 30 years in prison, a lifetime on supervised release and a $500,000 fine. More

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Marc Gasol had a season-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, and the Memphis Grizzlies extended their winning streak to four with a 93-87 victory over the struggling New Orleans Hornets. Trevor Ariza had 18 points for the Hornets in his return from a pulled right groin. More

UNDATED (AP) - The five Republicans seeking their party's nomination for president plan to get their licks ahead of tonight's last televised debate before Saturday's South Carolina primary. Newt Gingrich is speaking at two town hall meetings while Mitt Romney plans to visit his campaign headquarters in Charleston. Rick Santorum has events scheduled in two cities. More

DES MOINES, IA (AP) - Certified vote totals from the Jan. 3 Iowa Republican caucuses become available later this morning. The vote total reported by the party on the night of the caucuses showed an eight vote win by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney over former Sen. Rick Santorum. It was the closest outcome in the event's history. More

WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN (AP) - Friends and family await the news of a Minnesota couple missing since last Friday's cruise ship disaster off Italy's Tuscan coast. About 450 people attended a prayer vigil last night for Barbara and Jerry Heil. They're the only Americans unaccounted for after the ship struck a reef and capsized. More

ROME (AP) - Divers are again scouring the submerged area of a cruise ship that capsized off Italy's Tuscan coast. Divers reentered the ship when officials determined it had stabilized after shifting on the rocks a day earlier. There are 21 people still missing. More

ROCHESTER, NY (AP) - Eastman Kodak has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The move comes as the ailing photography icon has failed to find a buyer for its trove of 1,100 digital imaging patents. Kodak said in November that it could run out of cash in a year if it didn't sell the patents. More

LONG BEACH, CA (AP) - Two men face arraignment Thursday in Long Beach, CA for allegedly shooting five people to death. The victims were found under a Los Angeles freeway in 2008. Police allege David Ponce and Max Rafael belonged to the Nuthood Watts criminal street gang and shot the three men and two women because of unpaid drug debts. More

JERUSALEM (AP) - A former Israeli military intelligence chief says Iran has all the components to build a nuclear bomb. Amos Yadlin is quoted in Thursday's Maariv daily as saying that if Iranian leaders "get together tonight and decide they are going to secretly develop a bomb," they have all the resources and components they need. Iran has said its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes. More
