GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - It was a chilly start for most of us on Wednesday morning, but for a few local celebrities, the low temperatures had a little extra bite.

They were Freezin' for a Reason in the lake at Cabela's in Gonzales. Officers from Gonzales Police, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Department and our own Jay Grymes took a quick dip to promote the upcoming polar plunge, a fund raiser for Special Olympics in the Capital region.

"It's a great thing," said Chief Sherman Jackson with the Gonzales Police Department. "It's something for us to be proud of. Of course you've got to be dedicated if you wanna jump in 60 degree water. I'm glad we're a part of this process, and I hope we can keep it strong for a long, long time."

On January 28, 2012, close to 200 people will take the plunge. If you want more information, go to www.laso.org and click on the polar plunge icon.
