STATE NEWS

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - A man accused of killing four people is trying to get his trial moved out of Baton Rouge due to news coverage of the slayings. Trucko Stampley is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the April 2007 slayings. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.

JENNINGS, LA (AP) - Authorities are investigating the illegal dumping of oil in Jefferson Davis Parish. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says that five 55-gallon drums of used oil and diesel fuel were thrown into a ditch. Two of the drums had been dumped.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - LSU coach Les Miles says to expect some "big boy football" when his top-ranked Tigers take on No. 2 Alabama in BCS the title game Monday night in New Orleans. The two SEC teams met on Nov. 5, with LSU pulling out a 9-6 overtime win.

METAIRIE, LA (AP) - The New Orleans Saints are still undefeated at home and have lost just three times all season, so it might be a bit of nitpicking to say their performances on the road could be a potential downfall. The Saints will travel to No. 2 seed San Francisco for their game next Saturday.

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL NEWS

CONCORD, NH (AP) - The Republican presidential candidates are piling on the criticism ahead of Tuesday's New Hampshire primary. Newt Gingrich is calling Mitt Romney a "Massachusetts moderate" and dismisses Romney's claims of being a political outsider. Romney, who won the Iowa caucuses by just eight votes, is so far ahead in New Hampshire polls that his rivals have virtually conceded he'll win.

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities in Phoenix are investigating whether the same gun killed a sheriff's deputy shot while answering a burglary call and a New Hampshire couple found dead in their car in Arizona. Deputy William Coleman was gunned down early Sunday. Other deputies killed the gunman. The dead couple was found Friday near the resort town of Sedona.

TUCSON, AZ (AP) - A crowd gathered in Tucson, AZ Sunday night to think of the six killed and 13 wounded a year ago when a gunman opened fire on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords, who suffered a severe head injury, led the Pledge of Allegiance at the candlelight vigil. Staffer Ron Barber, who was wounded, also was there.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The Afghan military is investigating whether a man in Afghan army uniform who opened fire on a group of Americans was really a soldier. An American soldier was killed and another was wounded in Sunday's shooting at a base in southern Afghanistan. The gunman also was killed. Similar attacks have raised fears of increased Taliban infiltration of the Afghan police and army.
