Baton Rouge homicide detectives are investigating a murder that happened Wednesday evening. Family members said a man was killed by his grandson. More

A murder mystery that spans 4,000 miles is being investigated. Police in Hawaii are trying to figure out who killed a Baton Rouge man and left his body on a Maui beach. More

Authorities are searching for a missing Baton Rouge man and woman. They disappeared when their boat overturned at a camping area near the Mississippi border. More

Mothers gathered outside Target stores nationwide, including Baton Rouge, to support a woman who said she was harassed for breast-feeding in the store. More


NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Jarrett Jack had 21 points and nine assists in his regular-season debut, and New Orleans dominated in its home opener, beating the winless Boston Celtics 97-78 on Wednesday night. The Celtics are 0-3 for the first time since 2006-07, the season before they traded to bring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in to help star Paul Pierce.

METAIRIE, LA (AP) - Although the Saints' defense has produced much less fanfare than their record-setting offense, it's been a key part of New Orleans' seven-game winning streak and a second NFC South title in three years. The Saints go into Sunday's regular-season finale against the Carolina Panthers ranked 10th in rushing defense.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A police officer was treated for a stab wound he suffered as he tried to break up a brawl in a housing development in New Orleans' Algiers neighborhood. A 12-year-old girl was arrested after the police officer was wounded in the shoulder Wednesday evening. The officer was hospitalized in good condition.

SHREVEPORT, LA (AP) - Shreveport police say a resident shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to enter a home through a window. The resident has not been charged. Police say the man who was shot is facing charges of criminal trespass and unauthorized entry. He was hospitalized Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Americans are hopeful about what the new year will bring. Nearly 70 percent of people who answered an Associated Press-GfK poll said 2011 was a bad year, but 62 percent said they're optimistic about 2012 and what it'll bring for the nation. And, 78 percent are hopeful about the year their family will have.

DES MOINES, IA (AP) - There are just five days before the Iowa caucuses, and the GOP contest remains deeply undecided. Candidate Ron Paul has received a surprising endorsement from Michele Bachmann's former Iowa state chairman. Rick Santorum's campaign suddenly seems to have momentum as Newt Gingrich may be losing his. And, some new polls say Mitt Romney might be poised to finish on top.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The government has been ordered to pay $17.8 million to a family that lost four members when a Marine Corps fighter jet crashed into their San Diego home in 2008. Don Yoon lost his wife, two young daughters and mother-in-law in the crash.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - The U.S. is strongly warning Iran against closing the vital Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf waterway that carries one-sixth of the world's oil supply. Iran is threatening to choke off traffic if Washington imposes sanctions on Tehran.
