ENTERPRISE, LA (WAFB) -

A mother and her son lost their lives when their home caught fire on Christmas Day.

The Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department and Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a trailer on fire at 12:25 p.m.

It sparked on Columbia Church Road in rural Catahoula Parish.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. They later located the bodies of the two victims.

They have been identified as Annette Salter, 67, and her son, Dudley Salter, 46.

The Office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire with the Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office. Authorities said family members that lived nearby saw the fire and called 911.

Investigators have not determined the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary results showed no suspicious circumstances have been found. There were no working smoke alarms in the home.

"Our prayers are with this family as they deal with such a terrible loss," said Fire Marshal Butch Browning. "There was very little evidence left on the scene, but we believe the fire was an accident."

One family member who lived nearby suffered injuries while trying to rescue the Salters.
