According to witnesses, one person was taken to the hospital after getting shot early Friday morning. They said it happened during a break-in. More

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Education Department says seven states, including Louisiana, have won a share of $200 million in federal "Race to the Top" dollars to improve K-12 education programs. The other winning states are Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

SHREVEPORT, LA (AP) - A sheriff has arrested a 24-year-old tattoo artist and the tattoo shop's owner after two teenage girls showed up at the store and got their tongues pierced without getting their parents to consent. Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator says he arrested Nicholas Bernard Gobert and the owner of business, Jonathan R. Clinton of Shreveport.

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA (AP) - Nothing comes easily for the Atlanta Falcons against New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees. Though the Falcons earned a narrow win last year at New Orleans, Brees has beaten Atlanta in six of the last meetings in the Superdome. A victory Monday night by the Saints gives them the NFC South title.

DENTON, TX (AP) - LSU backed up a big win over a Top 10 team while also avenging a lopsided home loss from last season. Storm Warren scored a season-high 15 points and had consecutive jumpers that punctuated the go-ahead fun for the Tigers, who beat North Texas 67-58 on Thursday night for their sixth consecutive victory.

NEW YORK (AP) - More Americans are expected to take long trips this holiday season. AAA says about 92 million people will travel 50 miles or more today through Jan. 2. That's an increase of 1.4 percent more than last year. AAA says 90 percent of holiday travelers will go by car.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House will convene later today in hopes of approving a two-month extension of a payroll tax cut. House Republicans had opposed the stopgap measure the Senate approved last week. But, they gave in to President Barack Obama's demands and criticism from some of the 160 million workers who would have been affected.

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Former presidential candidate John Edwards says he has a medical condition that would make it difficult for him to attend his criminal trial over campaign finances. He's asking for the Jan. 30 trial to be delayed. Edwards is accused of using donor money to help hide his pregnant mistress during his 2008 run for the White House.

ISLAMABAD (AP) - Tensions between the U.S. and Pakistan are unlikely to ease soon. Pakistan's army says it rejects a U.S. investigation into last month's airstrike that accidentally killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. The investigation put the blame on both the U.S. and Pakistan for what happened. Pakistan has said it did nothing wrong.
