ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - For decades, buying a cold one or six-pack meant driving out of Hardin County. Not anymore. Voters passed expanding alcohol sales this fall and starting this week you can buy beer at select locations after the state sent licenses to businesses.
The Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control issued more than two dozen retail beer licenses to local vendors in the past few days. The owner at Main Street Deli didn't expect it but received his license by a fax Friday.
When the store applied, the goal was to sell beer by January and managers say customers are already buying and putting in requests.
"They're super excited and they're so glad they don't have to drive all the way up the road to get it. They can just get it when they get their cigarettes and go right home. It's a convenience thing you know," Kelly Morrison said.
Alcoholic Beverage Control officers told WAVE 3 there will be 24 beer licenses and 12 package liquor store licenses in Elizabethtown. Radcliff is eligible for eight liquor drink licenses and nine package liquor licenses. Vine Grove was given two.
