PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -
This time of year, you wouldn't expect St. Nick to take a day off, but Tuesday he took the time to visit a Port Allen family that has fallen on hard times.
Sometimes St. Nick drives a sleigh, but there are times when a red moving van works also. He usually delivers on Christmas Day, but his pit stop can be made early.
"Just didn't give me time to think, but I'm grateful," said Leena Antoine.
Antoine and her daughter, Yvonne Phillip, and her daughter's boys lost their home to fire in early November. They weren't sure what Christmas would look like this year. Recently, they moved into a new home, but with no furniture and only the clothes on their back.
That's when St. Nick heard about the family's troubles. St. Nick turned out to be a real Saint - New Orleans Saints defensive back Tracy Porter.
"I thought it would be a good thing to do - a way to give back to Port Allen - to put a smile on the family's face," said Porter.
With the help of a couple of businesses in the area, St. Nick (Tracy to his friends) helped fill Leena's home with furniture, clothes and Christmas cheer.
"Emotional, crying," said Yvonne. "But a happy cry. I'm very, very happy."
"Giving back to your hometown, a town that followed you through middle school, high school, college and to your pro career," said Porter. "The way the city's been behind me, it feels great to give back."
While the better-known St. Nick will be resting next Monday, Yvonne's special Saint will be trying to deliver yet another gift, one to all Saints fans.
