Fire officials said a woman died after her home caught fire. A neighbor pulled her out of the home, but responders weren't able to resuscitate her. More

Christmas arrived early for 70 Louisiana military families. Members of the 239th Military Police Company returned Saturday from a one-year deployment in Iraq. More

The Louisiana State Police said a 58-year-old man was killed when a vehicle cut in front of him on I-10, causing him to lose control of his car and crash into trees. More

A 26-year-old man was found shot to death Friday night. Witnesses said three men in hoodies may have tried to rob him and shot him when he tried to run. More


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Drew Brees threw for 412 yards and five touchdowns to lead the surging New Orleans Saints to their sixth win in a row, 42-20 over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Brees completed 32 of 40 passes to help the Saints (11-3) overcome a slow and sloppy start to stay two games ahead of Atlanta in the NFC South. Brees now is just 304 yards from breaking Dan Marino's single-season record with two games to play.

BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - A felony conviction for narcotics has cost a Clayton, LA bar owner her liquor license. Louisiana Alcohol & Tobacco Control Commissioner, Troy Hebert has revoked the state liquor permit issued to Frances Mae Williams, proprietor of Club 65. Williams, the sole owner of the bar, recently received a narcotics related felony conviction and therefore no longer qualifies for a liquor permit of any type in Louisiana.

NEW IBERIA, LA (AP) - An ultra-light, two-seat aircraft has crashed in a field in Iberia Parish. Sheriff Louis Ackal said about 2:13 Sunday afternoon the aircraft went down in a field. It was occupied by two people. The two Individuals received moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The cause of the crash will be investigated by the FAA.

NATCHEZ, MS (AP) - A big technological upgrade will soon be underway on the Mississippi River bridge between Natchez and Vidalia, LA. The $1 million upgrade will be funded by a $4.7 million grant the Mississippi Department of Transportation received from the U.S. DOT's Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Discretionary Grants program. The grant will be used to install Dynamic Message Signs, as well as an underwater acoustic Doppler radar system.

WASHINGTON (AP) - It's not immediately clear what effect the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il could have on efforts to get the North to return to nuclear talks. South Koreans are concerned over the news. Police in the South have been place on high alert, but their president is urging the nation to remain calm.

BABYLON, NY (AP) - A New York police officer killed during a botched robbery will be laid to rest today following a funeral in Long Island. Peter Figoski, a 47-year-old NYPD veteran, was killed in Brooklyn. The man accused of killing him faces first-degree murder charges and four other men are charged with second-degree murder.

IOWA CITY, IA (AP) - Iowa's state Republican Party says it isn't taking any chances after receiving a video threat from potential hackers. The party says it's taking steps to secure its electronic vote collection system, just two weeks before the Iowa caucuses. Hackers could corrupt the database used to gather vote totals and crash the website used to inform the public about results.

ILIGAN, Philippines (AP) - Authorities in a Philippine city ravaged by flooding are planning a mass burial of hundreds people who were swept to their deaths. The mayor of Iligan says the first 50 unclaimed bodies will be buried today because the city's half a dozen funeral parlors are filled to capacity. The death toll in the region is near 700 with more missing.
