During the holiday season, law enforcement agencies always crackdown and run extra patrols looking for impaired drivers. This year, they aren't just looking for those under the influence, but distracted drivers as well, specifically those texting while driving.

State troopers, especially, are out to put some teeth into a fairly new law against texting while driving. It is illegal to text and drive. Those under 17 are not allowed to use the phone at all while driving, unless they use a hands free device.

Recently, a national publication rated Louisiana as having the worst drivers in America. The website based this on traffic deaths, tickets issued, drunk driving, failure to obey and carelessness.

It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle that is the holiday season. But, we've seen first hand how an accident can change and destroy a family at the holidays. One careless text message behind the wheel can change a time of joy and celebration to one of grief and discomfort for many years to come. Be safe out there.
