A Baton Rouge school bus driver is dead after authorities say she lost control of her car and crashed into a woman's home.

It happened just blocks from where the bus driver lived.

Vanessa Bayham choked up when she talked about what happened Saturday night as she was getting ready for bed. She was leaving her bathroom around 10:30 p.m. when Deon Brumfield Spears, 39, crashed into her home in a Cadillac Escalade.

"When I made it to the window, she was right there, the vehicle was just right there," Bayham said.

Authorities say Spears lost control of her vehicle, drove at a high speed across six lawns, and into Bayham's home. The escalade tore off part of the front of the home.

Family members tell nine news Spears was a bus driver for East Baton Rouge Schools, and was just a few blocks away from home.

"I backed up from the window and I began to pray for that lady because no matter who it is they don't deserve to go like that. She appeared to be a beautiful woman," Bayham said.

Bayham, a former EMT says she's trained not to panic, but with this scene, she just couldn't pull herself together. One of Spears' family members told 9 News she may have had heart problems.

Spears' family was too emotional to talk on camera, but did say they miss her and are very upset by what happened. A coroner will determine an official cause of death this week.
