NEW HAVEN, CT (AP) - LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is one of five finalists for the Walter Camp Foundation player of the year. The other finalists are Alabama running back Trent Richardson and quarterbacks Andrew Luck of Stanford, Robert Griffin III of Baylor and Case Keenum of Houston. The winner will be announced Dec. 8.

METAIRIE, LA (AP) - The New Orleans Saints are on a three-game winning streak in large part because Drew Brees isn't getting sacked. Through the first eight games this season, Brees had been sacked 19 times. Since then, coach Sean Payton says his team focused on not just pass protection but running better to give the offense more balance.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The loss of some of the biggest Occupy encampments isn't the end of the movement, say Occupy New Orleans residents. They already have ideas about what they'll do if police oust them from Duncan Plaza. Mayor Mitch Landrieu has said that at some time they'll have to leave.

MIAMI (AP) - The 2011 Atlantic hurricane season has ended and it's a study in contradiction. The usual targets in the southeastern U.S. were spared, but Irene paralyzed the Eastern seaboard and left behind devastating and deadly flooding across the Northeast. There were 19 tropical storms and six hurricanes.

YAPHANK, NY (AP) - Police now believe one person is responsible for the remains of 10 bodies. Many were dumped along a remote beach south of New York's Long Island. The police commissioner in Suffolk County tells The Associated Press detectives believe a serial killer is probably responsible for the deaths that date back to 1996.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - A New Jersey man accused of dumping his 2-year-old daughter in a creek while still in her car seat is set to appear in a San Diego courtroom later this morning. Arthur Morgan III was the subject of a nationwide manhunt before he was arrested Tuesday in California. He's charged with murder and other offenses. New Jersey authorities want him extradited.

TRENTON, NJ (AP) - People taking the drug Lipitor will soon be able to buy a generic version. The Food and Drug Administration has granted an Indian company permission to market the cholesterol blockbuster in the U.S., and the company says shipments will begin immediately. Pfizer, the maker of Lipitor, lost its U.S. patent protection Wednesday.

BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi officials say 10 people have been killed in a car bomb blast in a market northeast of Baghdad. Police say the explosion happened Thursday morning in the town of Khalis as shoppers were starting to arrive. A local hospital official says 22 people were wounded.
