Homemade holiday gift ideas from Kia Crittenden

Infused Vodka

1 liter vodka
Flavorings, such as 1½ cups fresh pineapple chunks, 4 vanilla beans, or 3 halved and seeded jalapeños
Glass bottles with tight seals

1. Divide the vodka and desired flavorings among the bottles.
2. Refrigerate until the vodka reaches the desired level of infusion, at least 3 days and up to 1 week. Remove the flavorings after 1 week or instruct the recipient to do so. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 months.

Lemon Kick Rub Mix

4 tablespoons lemon pepper
2 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt
1tablespoon plus 1 1/2  teaspoon garlic powder

1. Combine ingredients and stir until well blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to use the rub:

Sprinkle and rub the mix according to taste preferences on both sides of fish, chicken or turkey before grilling, broiling, baking or frying.


Orleans Pepper Rub Mix

2 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Herb Veggie Dip Mix
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 1/2 teaspoon dried tarragon
1 1/2 teaspoon minced onion
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper


1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare the dip:
Combine the Herb Veggie Dip Mix with 2 cups sour cream and 2 teaspoons lemon juice.  Stir until well blended.  Cover and refrigerate.  Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.  Serve with assorted fresh vegetables.

 

Spicy Cajun Dip Mix

1 tablespoon Hungarian paprika
3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
3/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon sugar

1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare the dip:

Combine the Spicy Cajun Dip Mix with 2 cups sour cream. Stir until well blended.  Cover and refrigerate.  Chill for at least 8 hours before serving.
Serve with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

 

Sesame Cheese Dip Mix
2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
4 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds*
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare the dip:
Combine the Sesame Cheese Dip Mix with 2 cups sour cream. Stir until well blended.  Cover and refrigerate.  Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.  Serve with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
 
*To toast sesame seeds, microwave for 30 seconds.

Toffee Coffee Mix

4 teaspoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons powdered coffee creamer
2 tablespoons brown sugar

1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare the coffee:
Place the Toffee Coffee Mix in a mug.  Pour 8 ounces boiling water over the mixture.  Stir until the mix is completely dissolved.  Package of Toffee Coffee Mix makes 5 to 8 servings.

 

Fireside Coffee Mix

1 tablespoon plus 1 ¾ teaspoon powdered coffee creamer
3 1/2 teaspoons instant hot cocoa mix
3 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
2. Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare the coffee:

Place the Fireside Coffee Mix in a mug.  Pour 8 ounces boiling water over the mixture.  Stir until the mix is completely dissolved.  Package of Fireside Coffee Mix makes 4 servings.

4 1/2 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons lemon flavored instant tea
1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1. Combine ingredients and stir well until blended.  Place in a 3" x 4" ziplock bag and seal.
