The following is a Press Release from the Louisiana State Police:
On November 22, 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop D in Lake Charles was contacted by management at the Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Lake Charles, LA in reference to a suspicious person. Upon arrival, troopers identified 26-year-old Lonnie Truitt of Angola, KS and a 15-year-old female in a 1993 Ford Escort.
A check of Truitt's background revealed that he is a registered sex offender from Kansas. The 15-year-old female was listed in the computer as a runaway juvenile from Texas.
State police detectives were summoned and an investigation revealed that Truitt and the 15-year-old female met on a chat line. While talking, Truitt asked the 15-year-old to send him naked pictures of her through her cell phone to his cell phone. Truitt received approximately five to ten pictures from her.
On November 21, 2011, they met in Texas and Truitt stated that the 15-year-old female wanted to go to Florida. Truitt produced a hammer from the vehicle and smashed the cell phone of the 15-year-old so her parents could not contact her. Truitt engaged in sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old female during their initial meeting and again during their trip.
Upon arrival in Lake Charles, Truitt performed a lewd act on the 15-year-old female at the Yogi Bear Jellystone Park. Truitt admitted to state police detectives that he received sexually explicit images of the 15-year-old female and engaging in sexual intercourse in Texas.
Truitt was arrested for molestation of a juvenile and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. The 15-year-old juvenile was brought to a safe location for pick-up by her parents.
Detectives credit the attentive management at the campground and the diligence of responding Troop D troopers with the apprehension of Truitt and removing the girl from a harmful situation.
