Man gets prison term for Lake Havasu City killing

LAS VEGAS (CBS5/AP) -

A man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the 2011 bludgeoning death of his uncle in Lake Havasu City.

Judge Steven Conn sentenced 45-year-old Jeffrey Paul Costa on Friday in Mohave County Superior Court for second-degree murder.

Authorities say 62-year-old Wayne S. Lopez was found in his Lake Havasu City home on Nov. 3, 2011 with severe head injuries. He died the following day at a Las Vegas-area hospital.

The killing occurred during an argument. Costa was staying at Lopez's home at the time.

He fled in his uncle's car to Long Beach, CA, where he turned himself in to authorities after Lake Havasu City police identified him as a possible suspect.
