LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - For the first time in 35 years, Livingston Parish will soon have a new sheriff without the last name Graves.
Chief Deputy Jason Ard took the largest chunk of the votes, winning with 61 percent.
"We've been in a marathon," Ard said. "We've been running hard. My supporters, family, campaign staff all my volunteers showed up and we took it home."
His closest challenger was former state trooper Mickey McMorris.
Ard said he already has one change he'd like to make within the sheriff's office.
"This parish is growing tremendously and the population is up 130,000 people and we need more deputies on the road. I'm going to work hard to do that and do everything in my power to get that done," Ard added.
