BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, running back Spencer Ware, and cornerback Tharold Simon were suspended for violating of team rules. Failed drug tests reportedly led to the suspensions.
During his weekly media briefing Wednesday evening, head coach Les Miles would not confirm any details surrounding the matter. He declined to confirm the names of the players involved.
"It is an internal discipline and internal function of our team and I am not inclined to be forthcoming with information," Miles said. "When there is information that I can share, I will. I'm doing this for the best of our football team and our squad."
Miles would not comment on any questions from reporters about what behavior led to the suspensions.
The length of the suspensions remained unclear after the coach's news conference. However, all three players are expected to miss Saturday's matchup against Auburn.
ESPN reported the suspensions were only for one game. However, a source close to the situation said a final decision on that topic had not yet been made.
So far this season, Mathieu has forced four fumbles, recovering three and returning two for scores. He also has two interceptions and 42 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
Nicknamed the "Honey Badger," Mathieu has been frequently mentioned as a possible Heisman contender.
Ware is the leading rusher for the unbeaten Tigers with 512 yards and six touchdowns.
Simon has one interception and 29 tackles.
