BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana State Police investigated a train crash that claimed the life of a 40-year-old Baton Rouge man early Sunday morning.

According to Troop A, it happened on US 61 north of Thomas Road shortly after midnight.

Troopers said Thomas Hall was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon on US 61 when he hit a Kansas City Southern engine.

They added bells, lights and workers were at the crossing to let drivers know of a passing train.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The LSP reported this is the second deadly crash involving a train this year in the Troop A area.

In both crashes, the driver was killed when crossing a railroad track with properly operating bells and lights.

Troopers would like to remind drivers of the dangers of ignoring those warning signals.
