LONGVIEW, TX (WAFB) - Several wildfires in northeast Texas forced the closure of a major interstate and caused travel delays for LSU fans returning home from the Dallas area.
Smoke from the fires was pouring across the interstate causing hazardous driving conditions.
As of 1:45 p.m., two portions of Interstate 20 eastbound were closed near Longview, TX.
One closure was at mile marker 599, affecting only the eastbound lanes.
At mile marker 601, the interstate was closed in both directions.
A spokeswoman for the Texas Highway Patrol said drivers were being detoured onto Highway 80 and then allowed to rejoin Interstate 20 at an area where the smoke is not an issue.
