BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The Department of Child and Family Services devoted all of its resources to figure out how and why people's personal information wound up in Baton Rouge streets.
Much of the data was turned over to WAFB simply for safekeeping.
Brent Villemarette, deputy secretary of DCFS, said he wants his staff to know how important it is to protect clients' personal information and help clients protect themselves in the future.
"We're referring them to the credit bureaus and giving them the procedures they need to follow, so we're making sure they get that kind of information they need to protect their credit," Villemarette said.
Melissa Smith, one of the women whose information was found, said she hasn't had any issues with her information so far, but she'll continue to monitor her credit report.
