AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – Auburn University football fans are gearing up for what could be the last year to roll the historic oak trees.
Monday, assistant professor Stephen Enloe with the Department of Agronomy and Soils spoke to a group at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce about the events surrounding the poisoning of the historic oaks.
Enloe talked about the health of the trees as well.
"Unfortunately the task force's opinion has still not changed. It is very unlikely that we will be able to save the trees. But there is a ray of hope the trees are continuing to really sprout even after leaves fall off from the herbicide damage," said Enloe. "We do have some green leaves out there. It is encouraging but still based upon the science and what we know it is a low change of them surviving."
Just a few weeks ago, Auburn University announced fans will be able to roll the poisoned oaks again this year after football games.
