LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - A man who escaped police custody while being transferred from one prison to another turned himself in to authorities Sunday.

Sedrick Smith, 33, of Greensburg surrendered to US marshals early Sunday morning.

He reportedly was taken into custody in Livingston Parish and booked there.

It is believed Smith broke free of his shackles and attacked the transport deputy before he broke the back window of the vehicle and ran away on July 21.

He was being transported from the Tangipahoa Parish Prison to the Catahoula Parish Prison.

The escape happened on I-55 in Hammond.

Smith will now face additional charges of aggravated escape and second-degree battery on a police officer.
