Cincinnati Councilman Wendell Young held a public forum on Tuesday to discuss the closure of two YMCA branches.
The Williams and Melrose branches of the Y are scheduled to close on August 22 as part of a realignment.
Young says places like the Y are critical for a thriving community.
"We're the people who if you give us a chance can help us keep these open," he said.
In a letter sent to YMCA leaders last week, Young asked that they delay the closures by at least six months (from the current end-of-August timeline) to allow for a full, open, and transparent explanation for the proposed closings, and to give the community and membership a reasonable chance to respond.
